Access Alexa

This project explores the possibilities and innovations in customizing Amazon Alexa to fit the needs of people with various abilities. Michael has configured Alexa to create a home remote alarm system. The alarm can be activated and deactivated by voice through Alexa. Alexa uses Amazon Harmony Do which is interfaced between VIRA (the hub for the home automation app Z-WAVE), and several HDTP commands set up in a Java server.

Michael has developed the code/program for this feature, however due to mobility impairments, has not been able to share it with others in the community.

Tetra members will be required to document this code, while also having the opportunity to further explore possibilities with Alexa, and create a user-friendly manual accessible to the greater community. The manual must be simple and easy to follow, while also adhering to specified digital accessibility guidelines. Experience in working with coding software (i.e python, CGI) will be an asset for this position, however are not mandatory. Strong communication and documentation skills are required.

Population Description: This project can be used to help improve the lives of people of all abilities.
